Museums in bid for Titanic artifacts

Posted on 01/26/201911/23/2019 by The Irish Gazette

A bid from a group of museums for over 5,500 items from the Titanic could be gotten if a successful fundraising bid can be put together. The campaign is aiming to raise $20 million to buy the items from a bankrupt American company that salvaged them from the wreck of the vessel. The bid for the artifacts comes from the Royal Museums Greenwich, National Museum Northern Ireland, Titanic Belfast and Titanic Foundation Limited. Half a million dollars has been pledged by The National Geographic Society. The campaign is reported by observers as the only viable option to retain the integrity of the artifacts. The Titanic sank in the North Atlantic on its maiden voyage in 1912 after hitting an iceberg.
