Humanist weddings now recognized in NI

Posted on 01/16/201911/23/2019 by The Irish Gazette

A Derry woman and her fiancé are the first couple in the North of Ireland to have a humanist wedding following a court ruling that they must be legally recognized. A court order of the Belfast Court of Appeal ruled that humanist marriages must be legally recognized in Northern Ireland. Quite simply a humanist wedding is a non-religious ceremony that is deeply personal and conducted by a humanist celebrant. It differs from a civil wedding in that it is entirely hand-crafted and reflective of the humanist beliefs and values of the couple.
