President Higgins dissolved the 31st Dail on the advice of Taoiseach Enda Kenny on February 3. The members of the 32 Dail that are elected in this coming election will meet on Thursday March 10the to select a Taoiseach to head the Government of the 32 Dail.
The outgoing government is a Fine Gael-Labor Party coalition that is headed by Taoiseach (Leader) Enda Kenny and Tanaiste Joan Burton. The government was formed on March 9th, 2011 and the first day of the 31st Dail was elected on February 25, 2011. The electoral law required that the 31st Dail would be dissolved by March 9th 2016. Now if a member party of the coalition decides to leave for whatever reason that would dissolve that government or if the Taoiseach decides to call for an election that would happen when he decides just so it happens by the date of the electoral law time.
Of the 166 member of the 31st Dail there will be 20 that will not stand for their seats again in the 32nd Dail, a reduction of 8 from the current Dail. The reason for this is the passing of the Electoral Act of 2013. The Polls will be open from 7 am to 10 pm on February 26th
Party slogans are tied to the election process giving the voters an idea of what that particular party deems is important. The following is the selection of slogans.
